This is a spatial visualization of the Federation simulation — 39 AI characters (NPCs) running autonomously across 8 factions. Each glowing dot is a living character thinking, deciding, and acting every few seconds.

• Colored shapes — Each faction has an influence zone drawn as an irregular polygon shaped by where its members actually are. This represents influence, not hard ownership.
• Shape = data — Territory expands toward faction NPCs and contracts where there are none. More spread-out members = larger, more irregular territory.
• Border style — Dashed when influence is low (cohesion < 40), solid when stable (cohesion 40+).
• Fill gradient — Stronger (more opaque) near the faction core, lighter at the frontier edges.
• Grey space between shapes — Neutral / unclaimed space. No faction controls it yet.
• Orange dashed outline — Contested zone. Two faction influence polygons overlap in this area.

• Dot border color — Shows faction affiliation. A dot with a red border belongs to Military Command. A blue border = Research Division, etc.
• Grey border — Unaffiliated NPC (companion, neutral, enigma, rival, or unknown).
• Dot fill color — Current mood (see below).
• Dot size — How recently the NPC was active. Bigger = more recent.

• Positive (happy, inspired)
• Thinking (contemplative, curious)
• Uneasy (anxious, suspicious)
• Negative (frustrated, aggressive)
• Unknown/Idle

• Green lines — Positive relationship (trust, alliance). Thicker = stronger.
• Red lines — Negative relationship (rivalry, hostility). Thicker = more intense.
• No line — Weak or no significant relationship.

• Territory — Emphasizes faction regions, dims relationship lines. Best for understanding who controls what.
• Network — Emphasizes relationship lines, dims territory fills. Best for seeing who knows whom and how they relate.
• Crisis — Highlights conflict lines (red), anomaly/low-cohesion zones, and rival/enigma nodes. Best for spotting trouble.

• Click + drag on empty space — Pan the map
• Click a dot — Select an NPC, see details (mood, goal, latest decision, thought)
• Hover over a faction territory — See faction info tooltip (name, cohesion, NPC count, status)
• Double-click a dot — Zoom in and center on that NPC
• Search box (top-left) — Type an NPC name to find and focus
• Zoom buttons (bottom center) — + / - / R (reset) / FIT

A persistent legend shows faction colors, zone types, and line meanings. Always visible so you never lose context.

• All dots in a territory turning orange/red — Faction in crisis.
• Red lines between two territories — Factions turning hostile.
• Dots shrinking — NPCs becoming inactive.
• Many dots pulsing — Cascade event just happened.
• Territory border turning dashed — Faction cohesion dropping below 40.
